The University on Avenida 18 de Julio

The University or "Facultad" of Montevideo, Uruguay is located on Avenida 18 de Julio. When we visited the city of Montevideo in 1999 we were told that it was, for some time, only used for the school of law. We also had the opportunity to visit the building used for the school of natural science on our first trip. This other edifice was a larger newly constructed building in another section of the city, but not too distant. To the right of this picture one can see a fraction of the Biblioteca Nacional, the main building of the public library.

La Catedral en la Ciudad Vieja

The Cathedral of Montevideo is located in the section of the city called "Ciudad Vieja", or the Old City. The church is not of gigantic dimensions, moreover it is a very attractive place. There is much activity in the area surround the church from early in the morning till late afternoon. The park in front of the church is a exceptional place to make friends and the bookstore Librería Linardi y Risso is half a block from this park.
